Let me be the first to post an entry for Club 6. And, as the KING of Club 6, I gotta tell you, I have PLENTY of pictures to fill in here.
In case you aren't sure what exactly it takes to be in this club, all you have to do is enter the monthly BCC contest (or GSCCC) and have a print score the absolute lowest possible score. Whoo Hoo!!!
So, how is this possible. Well, let me explain the judging system.
There are three judges. A picture is presented. Each judge has a controller to enter their score. Technically, the scores should be on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the worst. But, as a courtesy, the judges are asked not to enter a 1 for an image. So, this means the total possible score from all three judges is between 6 and 15.
So basically, it means that all three judges agreed that an image was not worth more than the lowest possible score. What a great feeling! But, good news, you now are a member of Club 6! Congratulations!!! 6 is the new 15...and you deserve a round of applause!
And, what is really an even better feeling is when two or more of your images in a single month score 6. What a rush!!! In fact, one month, I actually came 1 pt away from a full sweep in the Projected Category with two entries receiving a 6 and my final entry receiving a 7. Never have I been so disappointed that i didn't actually get a 6. I was one (1) point from forever eternalizing a perfect score of 3 6s for a combined score of 18 points! WOW!! That REALLY would have been a special distinction.
But what can I say? I have the most Club 6 winners because I have entered more than anybody else (at least in the past 6 years). I'll eventually post some more.
The KEY is to enter...you enter to win...and with Club 6, you enter to loose...both can be rewarding.
If you enter, and one of your images receives the ultimate distinction of receive the LOWEST possible score, post it here...lest it disappear into obscurity.
I will get this elite Club going with one of my first Club 6 winners. I am not sure this is THE first, but one of them. And one of the shocking ones. I am not suggesting any of these are good images. But, when you shoot as much as I do (10's of thousands of pictures a year), and you cull down your photos to just three per category per month, thinking they are pretty much the best of your best, and you get a 6...well, it can be a little shocking.
And, for the record, I don't always enter an image I think will win, sometimes it is just for humor, or because I want to show something I have shot.
Competition is not just about winning. If you enter solely to win, you will be very likely, very quickly disappointed and quit entering. But don't. Entering the competitions presents me with the opportunity to cull through literally thousands of photos, forcing me to pick the best ones (at least to me) and preparing them for contest, tweaking the files, printing and prepping them for display. Because of the monthly contest, I have finalized dozens of images that would have disappeared into folds of time.
Competitions are also a reason to shoot. There are lots of time I will shoot something just because I think it will be cool to enter in the BCC monthly contest...and this is a good thing. So, regardless of how an image does in contest, there are many benefits to entering the contest each and every month. And who knows...you too may have an image do so poorly that you get to enter it here, in this forum as our latest Club 6 winner!
